Monday I jogged my 567th mile this year, a few days shy of the end of June. 567 miles (technically 567.00195 miles) jogged over the course of six months is equivalent to running a 5k every day since January 1.
At the start of the year I pegged my 2013 running goal to run 1,000 miles; currently BeeMinder tells me I am a month ahead of that goal. My new stretch goal: 1135 miles this year, or averaging a 5k for every day of the year. With Tuesday’s run I am slightly ahead of pace.
A new habit I have picked up is running before work. Specifically I have been rolling out of bed at 6 and jogging while the kids and Katie are sleeping & getting up. [Quick Read from MapMyFitness: 5 Tips to Become a Morning Runner] Most of my runs are ‘easy’ runs, or running below my aerobic threshold, which I calculate at 150 bpm. Speaking of, after suffering ITBS with both knees/legs earlier this year, the past few months have been relatively injury free. Hooray.
Earlier this month I also eclipsed 200 miles of combined running, cycling & swimming for the month. I have now gone over 200 miles every month for the past 12 months, going back to July 2012. I am hopeful I can keep up the pace; the 200+ miles is another goal of mine for each month of 2013.
