We are halfway through season 4 of Fringe, and it has been a fun ride.
Oddly enough, the first Fringe episode we caught was literally the last one- the series finale which aired about a month ago. Since Amazon Prime offered seasons 1-4 over streaming video for free, I figured it was worth a shot. We got sucked in.
It took me a while to give Fringe a shot since it seemed like another LOST clone destined for failure. Fortunately Fringe was able to limp along just long enough for a proper final season & conclusion.
I was never much of an X-Files fan, but it seems like the show could be roughly described as a sci-fi procedural show, or perhaps a mashup of House & X-Files. (Or maybe just X-Files? I don’t really know.) Female FBI agent teams up with mad scientist & dashing son to solve one odd science-fictiony mystery a week. The cast is pretty strong throughout, although I wish Jasika Nicole’s character were stronger & more prominent. A nice complement to the regulars on the show are a few strong guest performers- easily determined from the web, but I won’t give them away since we were able to be pleasantly surprised.
Katie and I are both suckers for science fiction, and the show holds up this end of the bargain too- both in the weekly mysteries and in the larger multi-episode (or multi-season) story arcs. Finally (like many good shows), the occasional humor works pretty well too.
How much did we get sucked in? I am a little ashamed to admit that we have watched about 75 episodes since catching the series finale in late January- or perhaps 60 hours of television in the past month alone. What can I say? We were anxious to find something after devouring both seasons of BBC’s Sherlock in early January. [Worth it!]
